Hey! Happy Valentine’s Day,
Today started really early with a re-dropping of the anchor at 4.00 am. Yep, Kingston Bay in St-Vincent is definitely not a good spot for anchoring, too much wind and current so it’s dragging all the time. I wasn’t involved in the manoeuver but when more than 100m of chain moves on the other side of your cabin wall you will notice it, it makes a lot of noise.
Except for this, the morning was quiet with just self-study for the trainees and some small maintenance for the crew. This afternoon we left for Dominica and all the internships started. As a deckhand/mate apprentice I took part of the internship for the captain and officer applicants, with Ruth and Wendy. I was in charge of the presentation of the navigation room and the different instruments that we use and also the software that we use to run the ship on an administrative way, to keep track of everything like maintenance, safety drills, crew’s paper, …
After that the sailing really starts, even if the wind is playing with us, appearing and disappearing at will, shifting from one tack to the other, increasing suddenly, we make for more than 8 kts speed for 1 minutes and 5 minutes later it was completely gone and we need to turn the engine on. Really weird situation, disappointing :/.
It’s Valentine day, it was planned to do a small party on deck but I don’t know if it going to happen, it’s 19.00 and I’m going to rest before my watch at 22.00 so even if it’s happen I would not see it. Perks (or not) of the sea watches, sometimes you miss some stuff from the life of the trainees because you need to take your rest.
Small update, party will start at 20.00. Good night every one 🙂
That’s all for today.
