Hello everybody,
This morning there was no morning cross fitness. The cross fitnessmaster had to catch up on some shut-eye after a short night caring for one of the trainees. She had a really tough evening and night having caught a particularly bad case of sea sickness. For most of us fortunately this morning started with oatmeal (with a whole variety of add-ons).
For the outsiders it might all sound like a big holiday adventure. Sailing and island hopping around the Caribbean. But that is far from the truth. There is also a lot of work and hardship on De Wylde Swan ;-):
– Studying (at least four hours every day ; this is just for school ; sail training and other courses are added to the load),
– happy hour (cleaning with loud music to drown out the sighs),
– sickness (sea, home and general),
– punishments for not (in time) cleaning up your school materials ; pealing potatoes is one of the punishments. I am quite sure the crew can come up with a bunch of nasty chores so I am going to play it safe.
However with a fantastic group of crew members and trainees the hardship is always short-lived. And alleviated with music, (bad) jokes and a smile , these can turn around anyone’s mood.
The sailing today was like a dream: a nice steady breeze, a fairly calm ocean and nothing but bright blue water as far as you can see. And after three days at sea there was also the wonderful sight and experience of seeing land. And anchoring in the bay of Charlottesville on the Island of Tobago. And finally (after three days 😉 ) going for a swim!! Yeah ha!
Tonight the cooks have delighted everyone again by providing a wonderful meal – wraps ; with all the right extras. As I am writing this blog most of the crew and trainees are watching the movie ‘How expensive is the sugar’.
This ends another fulfilling and exciting day in paradise. Good night and till later.
